Subordinates: Scale Master, Admin Clerk, Cleaner
Purpose: Supports the traffic control centre manager in overseeing the daily operations of the traffic control centre. This role ensures smooth traffic flow, effective incident management, and efficient use of traffic monitoring systems. The assistant manager provides leadership to operators, assists in decision-making, coordinates with external agencies, and contributes to data analysis and reporting.
Qualifications and Skills
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
- Management diploma or equivalent NQF 5 or N5 tertiary qualification.
- Traffic officer diploma/certificate required
- Advanced computer literacy skills (MS Office)
- At least five (5) years related experience
- Valid unendorsed code 08 drivers license
- Certificate of medical fitness.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure that proper planning is done timeously for effective control of the TCC.
- Plan the daily activities of all subordinates to ensure the smooth flow of the operations.
- Organizing the planned activities to achieve the stated operational goals.
- Recognize training needs and organize quotations for training.
- Where required and possible facilitate communication with SAPS and emergency services.
- Ensure constant communication between all areas of the TCC.
- Liaise with public and customers on queries regarding their overloaded vehicles.
- Ensure constant communication with the senior supervisor/EMP/safety controller/maintenance team about system failures or any issues on actions required.
- Lead the operational teams by organizing them in such a manner that the proper function and purpose of the TCC is achieved.
- Ensure that effective and efficient control is exercised when managing the staff.
- Ensure that disciplinary procedures are applied with a view towards achieving control when managing the staff.
- Ensure that all personnel perform their duties in accordance with set operating procedures.
- Monitor the traffic situation continuously to ensure that traffic flow through the TCC is not disrupted by ensuring that all equipment is functioning correctly.
- Investigate all incidents as reflected in the incident reports.
- Manage and report on day-to-day weighing statistics.
- Perform weekly inspections together with senior supervisor/EMP/safety controller on the entire TCC and, as and when required include other adjacent properties on which TCC related activities take place.
- Reset the prosecution software weighing booms via the VCOM programme to minimize any problems experienced with system.
- Check attendance of the VIF examiners.
- Ensure that the VIF operates efficiently and effectively.
- Participate or assist with offsite overload control activities, as and when required e.g., VLM operations.
- Report monthly statistics to the TCC manager regarding dangerous goods vehicles and busses found overloaded as well as from alternative routes.
- Manage and inspect the abnormal vehicle permit reports.
- Record special releases on a spreadsheet.
- Record training on spreadsheet for monthly reporting.
- Produce a weekly production report.
