SQL Data Engineer

A leader in intelligence automation offering specialised software and services aimed at leveraging advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence is looking for a skilled SQL data engineer to join their data team. In this role, you’ll design, develop, and maintain robust SQL-based solutions to support enterprise-wide data operations. You’ll play a key role in building efficient ETL/ELT pipelines, ensuring data quality, and supporting reporting and analytics needs across the business.

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT processes using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), T-SQL, and custom scripts.
• Build and support data warehouses, data marts, and other data storage solutions.
• Ensure high standards of data quality, accuracy, and consistency across systems.
• Perform advanced data transformations and query optimizations for performance and scalability.
• Collaborate with reporting and BI teams to deliver reliable, high-performance datasets.
• Monitor and troubleshoot database performance issues proactively.
• Contribute to database design, data modelling, and performance tuning initiatives.

Qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in SQL Server database development and T-SQL.
• Hands-on experience with SSIS; exposure to SSRS and SSAS is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of relational database principles and normalization.
• Proven expertise in performance tuning, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
• Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python is beneficial.
• Experience with cloud-based SQL environments (Azure SQL, AWS RDS) is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Microsoft certifications are advantageous.

The Reference Number for this position is NG60371 which is a Permanent Hybrid position based in Cape Town offering a cost to company of R650k – R850k per annum negotiable on experience and ability.
