Please note: This is a fixed-term appointment for the Second Semester of the 2026 academic year only and will terminate in December 2026.

 
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Lecturing contact learning modules (with specific focus on Private Law and/or Mercantile Law) and associated responsibilities
  • Use a learning management system independently and/or collaborate to develop and deliver modules.
  • Compile teaching, learning, and assessment materials in partnership with the Module Coordinator (where appropriate).
  • Complete grading/marking for all the module assessments (formative and summative).
  • Take attendance and report to the relevant line manager.
  • Provide academic support to students and use communication platforms to address all student concerns and queries.
  • Complete internal moderation reports (where applicable and appointed).
  • Attend compulsory faculty meetings.
  • Fulfil all reasonably expected administrative functions relating to the position and as requested by the relevant line manager. 


Qualifications and Experience | Minimum Requirements:
  • Minimum Master of Laws (LLM) or equivalent qualification with relevant studies in Mercantile Law or Private Law
  • Strong background in Mercantile Law or Private Law, preferably with industry experience in commercial law and debt recovery.
  • Knowledge of the legal frameworks of South African commercial law and National Credit Act of 2007, among other applicable law principles and prominent cases.
  • At least three years of teaching experience in a tertiary institution.
  • Knowledge and understanding of teaching practices and industry norms.
  • Experience in online and blended teaching and learning environments will also be advantageous. 

Key Attributes:
  • Strong background in commercial law and debt recovery principles.
  • Experience in legal practice preferable. 
  • Thorough understanding of commercial law theory and application thereof in practice.
  • Sound teaching and assessment skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational, time management, and coordination skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
  • High level of computer proficiency with good knowledge of modern Information Technology infrastructure and online learning platforms. Experience with CANVAS LMS preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to cope with change.

 
This position is aligned to the Contact Learning mode of delivery at the Centurion campus. The successful candidate will therefore be required to lecture and fulfil associated academic responsibilities physically on campus as scheduled and required.
