A Multiplatform Business Reporter is responsible for identifying, investigating, and reporting on key developments across the business, financial, and economic landscape, delivering accurate, insightful, and engaging journalism that helps audiences understand how these issues impact their lives.

The role involves producing high-quality content across multiple platforms and formats, including digital articles, radio and television scripts, live crossings, video packages, podcasts, and social media content. The reporter is expected to interpret market trends, corporate activity, regulatory changes, and broader economic conditions, translating complex information into clear, accessible, and compelling stories.

This position requires strong digital instincts, an audience-first approach to storytelling, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, multiplatform newsroom, while upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity and accuracy.

Multiplatform Content Production:

• Produces high-quality, accurate, and engaging business news content across digital, radio, television, and social media platforms.
• Delivers news articles, video explainers, audio clips, live crossings, and social media content within tight deadlines in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

Breaking News & Original Reporting:

• Identifies and reports on breaking business, financial, and economic news in a timely and responsible manner.
• Actively seeks out original angles, exclusives, and enterprise stories relevant to the business landscape.
• Builds and maintains a credible network of business, financial, regulatory, and industry sources.

Audience Engagement & Digital Growth:

• Creates audience-first content tailored to the requirements and consumption habits of each platform.
• Uses digital analytics and audience insights to refine story selection, improve engagement, and support sustained audience growth and loyalty.

Expertise and Subject Matter Knowledge:

• Demonstrates a strong and developing understanding of financial markets, corporate performance, regulatory environments, and economic trends.
• Provides clear, accurate, and contextual analysis that enhances the newsroom’s business coverage and public understanding.

Collaboration and Editorial Standards:

• Collaborates effectively with editors, producers, and digital teams to plan and deliver coherent multiplatform business coverage.
• Upholds high standards of accuracy, fairness, and ethical journalism, ensuring compliance with editorial policies and broadcast regulations.


Minimum required qualification:

• Journalism Qualification

Qualifications considered advantageous:

• Qualification or formal coursework in Business, Economics, Finance, or related fields.
• Digital journalism, multimedia production, or data journalism training.
• Broadcast journalism or radio production qualification.

Minimum years of experience:

• Minimum 5 years’ experience in journalism, preferably in business, finance, or economics reporting.

Additional role requirements:

Business and Economic Acumen:
• Sound understanding of business fundamentals, including financial statements, corporate structures, and market dynamics.
• Ability to interpret economic data, company results, budgets, and regulatory announcements accurately and quickly.
• Familiarity with key economic indicators and institutions relevant to the local and global business environment.

Newsroom and Editorial Capability:
• Strong news judgment, with the ability to identify business stories with broad public interest.
• Ability to work collaboratively with editors, producers, and platform teams across a multiplatform newsroom.
• Willingness to adapt reporting angles and formats to suit different platforms and audience needs.
• Commitment to editorial accuracy, balance, and ethical reporting standards.

Digital and Data Literacy:
• Ability to analyse and use data to support business reporting and storytelling.
• Comfort working with digital analytics to inform story selection, headlines, and formats.
• Familiarity with basic data tools (e.g. spreadsheets, dashboards, public datasets).

Live and Broadcast Readiness:
• Confidence conducting live interviews, crossings, and panel discussions when required.
• Ability to respond quickly to breaking business news and provide clear, concise on-air explanations under pressure.
• Strong voice, presence, and scriptwriting skills suitable for broadcast.

Source Development and Research:
• Ability to build and maintain credible sources within business, government, and regulatory environments.
• Strong research skills, including the ability to assess the credibility of sources and information.
• Understanding of confidentiality, embargoes, and off-the-record reporting practices.

Work Ethic and Professionalism:
• Ability to work irregular hours, including early mornings, late nights, and weekends when business news breaks.
• Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced, deadline-driven newsroom environment.
• Willingness to continuously develop business knowledge and journalistic skills.
