Position overview:CMT is looking for a qualified and experienced
Team Leader to support the implementation of its Care and Treatment Programme in the Oliver Tambo District. The successful candidate will provide leadership and oversight to a team of
23 Coaches and
12 Community HAST Counsellors, ensuring the effective delivery of health services and community engagement activities.
Our team:The programme team consists of dedicated coaches and community HAST counsellors who work to improve health outcomes through outreach, counselling, and testing services.
Coaches:
- Recruit and engage programme participants
- Support treatment initiation and adherence
- Report on activities using standard templates and mobile applications
Community HAST counsellors:- Deliver HIV testing services in collaboration with public healthcare facilities, healthcare professionals, including nurse clinicians and social auxiliary workers
- Support national health objectives through community-based engagement
- Report on activities using digital platforms and standard tools
Key responsibilities of the team leader:- Provide mentorship, supervision, and ongoing support to coaches and community HAST counsellors
- Conduct regular field visits (approximately 90% of working time) to engage with teams and stakeholders
- Maintain strong working relationships with clinics, partner organisations, and local health networks
- Ensure timely achievement of programme goals and deliverables
- Implement and uphold CMT policies and procedures across all activities.
Reporting line:
This position reports to the
Project Manager based in Mthatha.
Salary: R18,020.00 per month

Minimum requirements Education: A diploma in management or an equivalent qualification in a related field
Experience and Competencies HIV/AIDS programme implementation:- At least 3 years’ experience working on HIV care and treatment programmes at facility and community levels
- Practical experience in project planning, implementation, and logistics
- Proven ability to build strong community and stakeholder relationships
Leadership and supervision:- Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring community health workers
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
Communication and teamwork:- Proficiency in English and isiXhosa (spoken and written)
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to support and guide diverse teams
Logistical and field readiness:- Willingness to be based in or relocate to Mthatha, Eastern Cape
- Valid driver’s licence with driving experience (essential)
- Ability to travel regularly within the OR Tambo District to supervise field teams
Administrative and organisational skills:- Competency in managing data, documentation, and mobile or digital systems
- Excellent planning and time-management skills
Personal attributes:- Demonstrates adaptability, initiative, and a solutions-focused approach
- Capable of working independently, with sound judgment to address challenges and escalate issues to the Project Manager when necessary
