AMI scholarship opportunity for women entrepreneurs

In commemoration of Women's Month in August, African Management Initiative (AMI) in collaboration with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) Enterprise Development Academy (EDA), is offering 50 women entrepreneurs a scholarship opportunity to complete a six-month educational programme.

The programme, which commences in August 2015, is focused on women entrepreneurs who want to raise their first bank loan to expand their business.

"Entrepreneurs face various challenges when working towards expanding their small business such as navigating the processes to apply for funding. However, being equipped with the right knowledge can give small business owners an advantage in helping their business reach its potential," says Yogavelli Nambiar of the GIBS EDA.

In recognition of the different challenges faced by women entrepreneurs, AMI created the Winning Women Programme. The programme aims to empower women entrepreneurs in Africa to develop the knowledge, competence and confidence to scale their enterprises and improve their credit-worthiness, which will increase the number of women-led enterprises successfully accessing loan capital.

"Many women entrepreneurs don't reach their full potential because they aren't sure how to get a loan. AMI is here to help with this practical programme that will walk women entrepreneurs through the loan application process and help them access the capital they need to grow their businesses," says Rebecca Harrison, CEO of AMI.

Women entrepreneurs who own a business with an annual revenue of at least R200,000, have access to the internet and have not yet accessed any specific loans for small enterprises, are encouraged to apply for this scholarship opportunity.

The programme will consist of online and in-person workshops and is supported by the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) to help women entrepreneurs prepare their business for a loan and navigate the application process.

The closing date for applications is 10 July 2015. Women entrepreneurs who meet the entry criteria can apply by clicking on the following link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GIBS_AMI_Application
