IBM fast-tracks Toyota SA’s digital overhaul with major SAP S/4HANA upgrades

IBM has completed two significant SAP S/4HANA upgrades for Toyota South Africa Motors. With SAP’s older ECC systems approaching end-of-support in 2027, IBM guided Toyota through a brownfield upgrade to ensure a smooth, minimally disruptive transition to modern, intelligent systems.

The first upgrade modernised Toyota’s vehicle management system, improving real-time data visibility, inventory control, and responsiveness across manufacturing and national dealerships. The second upgrade enhanced Toyota’s HR systems, creating a streamlined S/4HANA-based platform for payroll, personnel management, and future workforce innovation.
