Location: Remote (must be available during UK working hours)
Contract Type: Freelance – Project-based (long-term availability required)
About us
Land & Marine Publications is a UK-based publishing company with a strong presence in the East African market, where over 90% of our work originates. Since 1992, we’ve produced more than 20 high-quality titles annually, specialising in bespoke marketing materials for the airline and tourism sectors. These include branded in-flight magazines, travel guides, and other custom publications.
We're a small, friendly team of experienced editors, designers, sales professionals, and production staff who manage the entire publishing process in-house. Our collaborative approach ensures every project is impactful, engaging, and beautifully designed.
Since launching our first in-flight magazine in 2010, we've grown to become the leading provider of premium in-flight titles across East Africa. We work with some of the region’s most respected airline brands, delivering editorial and design that inspire, inform, and celebrate travel.
The role
We’re looking for a skilled freelance graphic designer with strong magazine and page layout experience to join our creative team on a project-by-project basis.
This remote role is ideal for a dependable, self-motivated designer who thrives on editorial work.
Only Applicants With Strong Publishing and Editorial Design Experience Will Be Considered
What you’ll be working on:
- Designing print-ready magazine layouts and editorial spreads (this is 95% of the role)
- Creating engaging promotional and advertorial content for clients
- Supporting occasional bespoke design projects (in-house or client-led)
You’ll collaborate closely with our Design and Production Manager via Microsoft Teams and be an integral part of our creative workflow -despite the distance. You must have your own equipment and fully licensed Adobe software.
Note: This is a freelance role that requires consistent availability and long-term commitment.
What we’re looking for
- A portfolio that showcases your magazine and editorial layout skills - this is essential to the role
- Strong proficiency in Adobe InDesign (non-negotiable), plus Photoshop and Illustrator
- Experience preparing print-ready files
- A keen eye for layout, typography, and visual storytelling
- The ability to hit deadlines and juggle multiple projects at once
- Excellent communication and remote collaboration skills
Bonus points if you:
- Have worked with travel, tourism, or lifestyle publications
- Can contribute creative ideas to both layout and editorial direction
- Bring a passion for storytelling through design
If you're an experienced layout designer who loves the rhythm of editorial work and wants to be part of a friendly, travel-focused publishing team - we’d love to hear from you.
